Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Hartwell, Moore and Padda.

Shokat Lal (Chief Executive Officer) declared an interest in the matter referred to at Minute No. 10/23 (Arrangements for the Appointment of an Assistant Chief Executive Officer for Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council) on the basis that he had previously worked with one of the candidates.

To confirm the minutes of the meeting held on 17 March 2023.

Resolved that the minutes of the meeting held on 17 March 2023 be approved as a correct record.

To determine whether there are any additional items of business to be considered as a matter of urgency.

There were no additional items of business to consider as a matter of urgency.

That the public and press be excluded from the rest of the meeting. This is to avoid the possible disclosure of exempt information under Schedule 12A to the Local Government Act, 1972, as amended by the Local Government (Access to Information) (Variation) Order 2006, relating to any individual.

To interview candidates for the post of Assistant Chief Executive Officer for Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.

Further to Minute No. 4/23 (17 March 2023), and following a recruitment process, the Committee interviewed candidates for the position of Assistant Chief Executive Officer.

Having considered the candidates, the Committee resolved unanimously to appoint James McLaughlin to the position of Assistant Chief Executive Officer.

Resolved that James McLaughlin, currently the Director of Corporate and Customer Services and Monitoring Officer at Derbyshire Dales District Council be appointed to the role of Assistant Chief Executive Officer of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.
