Decision details
Appointment of Interim Director of Housing
Decision Maker: Chief Executive
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
The Interim Director of Housing is defined as
a Chief Officer role within
the council’s Constitution.
With regards to the interim role, a national/regional search
process was
undertaken by the Council's master vendor supplier for interim
and
temporary agency workers.
The position was also open to all other suitable agencies
regionally and
nationally to submit suitable candidates.
The search process produced 5 candidates, of which 4 were
shortlisted
and taken forward for interview.
Formal interviews took place on the 18th August 2023, which
included the Chief Executive and the Cabinet Member Portfolio
Holder.
Of the candidates interviewed, Dean Epton was considered the
most
suitable.
Decision:
That the Head of Paid Service agrees to Dean
Epton being appointed as
the Council’s Interim Director of Housing
Reasons for the decision:
The Council is legally required to appoint a
suitably qualified officer
responsible for housing compliance and regulations ensuring we
are
safe and within the law. Within Sandwell Council, this
responsibility falls
upon the Council’s Director of Housing.
Alternative options considered:
An interim appointment was necessary whilst
the recruitment to the
permanent Executive Director of Place is undertaken. Accordingly,
there
was no alternative option to the appointment of an interim Director
of
Housing given the Council’s legal obligations
